Polar Medical is one of the UK’s leading suppliers and distributors of Spinal Cord Stimulation Implants to the NHS and Private Healthcare Sectors, helping patients with chronic pain management solutions.
Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS)
Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) is an innovative chronic-pain solution which sends electrical stimulation along the spinal column, which then blocks the nerve activity to the brain and minimizes the sensation of pain.
Research has shown that between five and seven out of ten cases found the therapy to significantly reduce pain for chronic conditions such as neuropathic (nerve) pain, failed back surgery syndrome and complex regional pain syndrome. It is advised however that spinal cord stimulation should only be used for patients who have severe chronic pain that is highly effecting and limiting everyday life and those who have already tried all reasonable therapies including (but not limited to) physiotherapy and painkiller medication.

Spinal Cord Stimulation Case Study
A spinal cord stimulator was recently featured in the Daily Mail, the case focuses on nurse Beverley Palmer who had tried all other pain treatments but was still struggling with excruciating back pain. She was eventually advised to have a spinal cord stimulator implanted by pain consultant and surgeon Dr Serge Nikolic who performed the operation at the London Independent Hospital. The surgery was a great success – ‘By day three, I was pain-free’ quoted Beverley.
