RF Trident™ Cannula

The RF Trident™ Cannula, when used in tandem with the Diros OWL Generator, transforms the landscape of Radio Frequency Lesioning of Nerves. This innovative tool ensures efficient procedures, minimised X-ray exposure, swifter patient recovery, and extended pain relief. The cannula’s slender 18g probe, coupled with a unique tine configuration, facilitates the creation of a substantial lesion with minimal collateral damage.

Deployable with ease, the cannula’s tines form a pyramid-like structure, adeptly encompassing the targeted nerve. Compatibility with Diros Probes and a perpendicular approach streamlines the placement process, enhancing procedural efficiency. Each cannula is individually sterilised and packaged in sets of 10, not only ensuring cost savings but also eliminating the risk of cross-contamination.

The RF Trident™ Cannula offers a paradigm shift in the realm of Radio Frequency Lesioning, promising heightened precision, efficiency, and patient comfort. Coupled with the Diros OWL® Generator, this dynamic combination exemplifies a cutting-edge approach to neurosurgical procedures, ultimately benefiting both healthcare professionals and patients alike.

What is Radio Frequency Neurotomy?

Radiofrequency neurotomy is a minimally invasive procedure designed to alleviate chronic pain in areas such as the back, neck, and buttocks, including the sacroiliac joint. The technique involves using radio waves to generate heat, temporarily disabling specific nerves and interrupting their ability to transmit pain signals.

During the procedure, healthcare providers insert needles near the affected area to deliver targeted radio waves. The precision of needle placement is ensured through the use of imaging scans. Commonly performed by pain specialists, radiofrequency neurotomy becomes an option when traditional interventions like medications or physical therapy prove ineffective, and surgery is not a viable choice.

This procedure is often recommended for conditions like lower back pain that radiates to the buttocks and thighs, particularly when exacerbated by movement. It may also be beneficial for persistent shoulder, knee, or hip joint pain. Additionally, radiofrequency neurotomy can address neck pain associated with whiplash.

To determine eligibility, patients may undergo tests to ascertain if the targeted nerves align with the source of their pain. A small amount of numbing medication is injected at potential treatment sites, and if pain significantly diminishes, radiofrequency treatment at those specific spots may be recommended.

It’s crucial to note that radiofrequency neurotomy provides temporary relief, with varying success rates reported. While some experience modest short-term relief, others may find significant improvement lasting several months. The alignment of targeted nerves with the origin of pain is pivotal for the procedure’s effectiveness.
